The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said to Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him):

“يَا غُلَامُ، إِنِّي أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ: احْفَظِ اللَّهَ يَحْفَظْكَ، احْفَظِ اللَّهَ تَجِدْهُ تُجَاهَكَ، إِذَا سَأَلْتَ فَاسْأَلِ اللَّهَ، وَإِذَا اسْتَعَنْتَ فَاسْتَعِنْ بِاللَّهِ، وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّ الْأُمَّةَ لَوِ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى أَنْ يَنْفَعُوكَ بِشَيْءٍ، لَمْ يَنْفَعُوكَ إِلَّا بِشَيْءٍ قَدْ كَتَبَهُ اللَّهُ لَكَ، وَإِنِ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى أَنْ يَضُرُّوكَ بِشَيْءٍ، لَمْ يَضُرُّوكَ إِلَّا بِشَيْءٍ قَدْ كَتَبَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ، رُفِعَتِ الْأَقْلَامُ، وَجَفَّتِ الصُّحُفُ.”

“O young man, I shall teach you some words: Be mindful of Allah, and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him before you. If you ask, ask of Allah; and if you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if the entire nation were to gather to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you except with what Allah has already written for you. And if they were to gather to harm you with something, they would not harm you except with what Allah has already written against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.” (At-Tirmidhī)

This Hadith taught by the Prophet ﷺ to a young companion, Ibn ʿAbbās, is not just a lesson in faith. It is a complete framework for how to live with trust, dignity, and connection to the Divine.

To ‘be mindful of Allah’ means to guard His commandments, remember Him constantly, and live in awareness of His presence. In return, Allah promises His protection, not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally. When your heart is anchored to Him, the storms of life may rage, but you remain steady.

When each part of you is turned toward Him, you’ll find peace in your steps, clarity in your thoughts, and light in your path.

This Hadith reminds us that all power ultimately lies with Allah. No one can grant or withhold benefit without His permission. This is not meant to isolate us from people, but to lift our hearts from dependency on creation and place our full trust in the Creator.
