Walk for Your Rizq, Rush for Your Lord

There is a subtle, powerful contrast in the way Allah speaks to us about our priorities; one that can easily be overlooked if we rush past His words.

When it comes to sustenance, provision, and everything we spend our lives striving for, Allah says:

“Walk through its paths and eat from His provision…” (Surah Al-Mulk 67:15)

The command is gentle: walk.

No urgency. No pressure. No desperation.

Because what is written for you will reach you, even if you move slowly.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“The Holy Spirit has inspired in my heart that no soul will die until it has completed its provision and its lifespan…” (Ibn Ḥibbān)

Your rizq is not running away from you. It does not need to be chased with anxiety, nor seized with fear.

And yet, when Allah calls you to Jumu‘ah, the tone shifts completely:

“O you who believe, when the call is made for prayer on the day of Friday, then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade… (Surah Al-Jumu‘ah 62:9)

Now the command is urgent: hasten.

Not walk. Not delay. Not “when you’re free.”

Leave your trade. Leave your transactions. Leave what you thought could not wait.

Because what you are being called to is greater than what you are being called away from.

This contrast is not accidental.

It is as if Allah is reminding us:

  • You rush for what is already guaranteed,
  • and you slow down for what determines your eternity.

The Prophet ﷺ warned about this imbalance when he said:

“Whoever leaves three Friday prayers out of negligence, Allah will place a seal upon his heart.” (Abū Dāwūd)

This is not about a missed routine—it is about a drifting heart.

And on the other hand, the one who honors Jumu‘ah is given immense reward. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever performs ghusl on Friday… then walks and does not ride… draws close to the Imam… will have his sins forgiven between that Friday and the next.” (Aḥmad)

Notice again: for Jumu‘ah, even your walking becomes an act of devotion when it is done with intention and presence.

So the lesson is not simply about physical movement—it is about the state of the heart.

For the dunya, Allah tells you to walk, because your provision is already written:

“And in the heaven is your provision and that which you are promised.” (Surah Adh-Dhāriyāt 51:22)

But for Him, you are told to hasten, because your meeting with Him is what truly matters.

So when the call comes—Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar—pause and reflect:

  • What are you slow towards?
  • And what are you rushing for?

Don’t exhaust your soul chasing what was already decreed for you,

while moving lazily toward the One who decreed it.

Leave what is in your hands, and respond with urgency.

Because whatever you think you might lose by going to Allah…

was never truly yours to begin with.

And whatever you gain with Allah…

is far greater than anything you could ever run after.
