Sunnah: Begin from the right

When we declare our belief in Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, it comes with a profound responsibility to adopt the lifestyle they have prescribed for us. This adherence is not just an obligation but a pathway to attaining the love and pleasure of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. Allah highlights this in the Qurʾān:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

“Say [O Muhammad], ‘If you love Allah, then follow me, and Allah will love you and forgive your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.'”(Sūrah Āl-ʿImrān, 3:31)

This verse makes it clear that success in this world and the Hereafter is deeply rooted in following Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

One of the simple yet profound Sunnan we can incorporate into our daily lives is beginning our actions from the right side.

ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ loved to start with the right-hand side in performing ablution, combing his hair, and putting on his shoes. (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)

Implementing this Sunnah might seem minor, but it carries immense value in our faith. It reminds us that every aspect of our lives—no matter how small—can be an act of worship if aligned with the Prophet’s ﷺ teachings.

Moreover, following the Sunnah, even in such seemingly trivial matters, serves as a way to cultivate mindfulness and consistency in emulating the Prophet ﷺ. It strengthens our connection to him and fosters a sense of discipline in adhering to Islamic teachings.

It is also a reflection of love and respect for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. When we consciously choose to follow the Sunnah, we demonstrate that our love is not limited to words but is also expressed through actions.

These practices remind us of the beauty and completeness of Islam, where even the smallest gestures hold significance. They reinforce that by embodying the Sunnah in our lives, we not only seek the love of Allah but also bring blessings and harmony into our everyday actions.

Let us strive to bring the Sunnah into our lives, starting with small, consistent efforts. For each Sunnah we revive, we bring light into our deeds and draw closer to the one who is the best of creation, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

اَللّٰهُمَّ ارْزُقْـنِيْ حُبَّكَ ، وَحُبَّ مَنْ يَّنْفَعُنِيْ حُبُّهُ عِنْدَكَ

O Allah, grant me Your love and the love of those whose love will benefit me with You.
