I would like to know if donating body parts (organs) is allowed?

The topic of organ donation is very complex. This topic covers various issues and cases, hence the different rulings. Every issue and case must be viewed individually.

However, there are two general scholarly views on the topic of organ donation. Some scholars are of the opinion that organ donation is permissible subject to the fulfilment of specific criteria. Another group of scholars are of the opinion that organ donation is impermissible. Both views are valid, backed by evidence and supported by competent scholars.

One may follow whichever viewpoint he/she deems appropriate. However, if one acts on the view of permissibility then as a precautionary measure it would be advisable to seek Allah, the Almighty’s forgiveness and donate something in charity.
