QUESTION:
I want to know if zakat is mandatory in the following scenarios:
1) A women has just 1 tola of gold(rs 28000 )and no money interm of cash.
2) A women has 1 tola gold (RS 28000) and some meagre of amount of cash (in hundreds).
The nisaab of gold = 7.5 tola=(rs 220,000 approx) And silver = 52.5 tola= (rs 24,000 approx)
Which nisaab do we have to consider in both condition in both scenarios.
ANSWER:
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
1) If one only has gold, then the niṣāb measure for gold will be used.
In this scenario, if she has no other items upon which zakāt is due, then she will not have to pay zakāt, as her gold has not reached the niṣāb amount.
2) If other conditions are fulfilled that make zakāt compulsory, she will have to pay zakāt on the gold and cash.
This is because if one has a mixture of items upon which zakāt is due, then the niṣāb level for silver will be used.
Zakāt will be paid by calculating 2.5 % of the value of the gold and also the cash.
And Allah, the Almighty, knows best
