Dua for Nur (divine light)

Dua For Nur
Dua For Nur – Islamic Duas & Supplications by MyIslaam

Ibn Abbas narrates, ‘I stayed one night with Maymoonah (one of the wives of the messenger peace be upon him, she was also Ibn Abbas’s mother’s sister). The Prophet, Allah send peace and blessings upon him awoke (at night), answered the call of nature washed his hands and face and went back to sleep. He then woke up again and went to a water skin, loosened the rope by which it was closed and then performed a moderate Wudhu, not using too much water yet washing all the parts properly. I then got up and stretched as I didn’t want him to think I was watching him (all this time) and then I performed Wudhu. He stood to pray Salah so I stood on his left, he took hold of my ear and moved me to his right side. His Salah consisted of thirteen Raka’at. He then lay down and went to sleep until he began to breath heavily, and when he would sleep he would breathe heavily. Then Bilal informed him of Salah (Fajr) so he offered Salah without performing Wudhu (again. It must be noted that the sleep of the messenger of Allah not invalidating his Wudhu is a ruling which only applies to him as explained by Imam Nawawi in his commentary on Sahih Muslim). One of the supplications of the messenger of Allah peace be upon him (during the night) was:

Oh Allah, place Nur (divine light) in my heart, eyes, ears, to my right and left, above me and below me, ahead of me and behind me and give me Nur.’

Kuraib (the student of Ibn Abas) said, ‘There were seven other words which I had forgotten. I then met a man from the offspring of Ibn Abbas so he narrated them to me and mentioned, (place light also in) my nerves, flesh, blood, hair and skin, he then mentioned two other things.’
