The Love For Wealth And The Desire For Fame

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

“Two hungry wolves set upon a flock of sheep are not more harmful to that flock than one’s greed for wealth and religious fame.” (Ḥadīth)

The love for wealth and the desire for fame are things that destroy one’s dīn, and every devout person’s dīn becomes ruined with these two things. In particular, a scholar of dīn needs to safeguard his dīn, his grave and Hereafter, and in trying to do this, it is necessary to protect himself from these two destructive things.

It would be very deplorable for a scholar of dīn to use the knowledge of dīn – which must be propagated merely for the sake of Allah – as a means to earn wealth and gain fame.

I pray that Allah grants me and all of you friends the ability to render sincere service for the dīn according to the way of the pious predecessors and make it a means of our forgiveness and salvation. Āmīn.
