One of our pious predecessors was filling up a jug with water. He suddenly noticed that the jug was not filling up. Upon taking a closer look, he saw a hole in the jug. He then remarked rather emotionally, “Just like this water is being wasted away due to the hole in the jug, I hope my good deeds are not being wasted away due to lack of sincerity and disobeying Allah.”

Moral: Learn to protect your good deeds by carrying them out with sincerity and by avoiding disobedience to Allah.
