Prophet ﷺ said:
وَالصَّبْرُ ضِيَاءٌ
“Patience is a radiant light.”
When the Prophet ﷺ described patience as ضياء, he was showing us that:
1. Patience is not passive — it is an active form of worship.
- It is the inner strength to continue walking, even when the path is difficult.
- This “radiant light” pushes you forward rather than leaving you standing still.
2. Patience burns away confusion.
- Just as sunlight dissolves darkness, patience dissolves panic and despair.
- The one who is patient sees trials with clarity, purpose, and calm.
3. Patience has heat—meaning it involves struggle.
- Unlike soft light (نور), ضياء is bright and intense.
- It reminds you that real patience comes with pain, but that pain leads to purification and growth.
4. Patience gives spiritual vision.
- It allows a person to understand that tests are part of Allah’s wisdom.
- The more patience a person has, the more “light” they carry within.
