Vegan & Intake of OMEGA 3 Fatty Acids

becoming a Vegan

Question:

One thing I’ve been neglecting since I started being vegan is my intake of omega 3 fatty acids.

The last 6 months of my first year and the first few months of my second year was when my skin was at its best. It hit me today that back then I use to count my calories daily to make sure I was getting everything I need. Now because I was consuming around 4000 calories at the start I was getting everything on chronometer to the required limit (including omega 3 and protein). I was exercising 2 hours a day so there was no digestion problem or weight gain. Since then my skin has never been anywhere near that supple. I want to try some new things to see how my body reacts. One of the things I want to put to the test is how my skin reacts with taking algae fish oil supplements because I’m almost certain that I’m deficient. The problem is all the algae supplements are either capsules or put in a soft gel form. Majority (if not all) are coated with gelatine which is haram for us. I was wondering if it will effect the supplement itself by splitting the tablet and just consuming the powder and is there anyone who does this. I’ve seen one of our Darul uloom bury teachers do this once in class and he says you have to be careful if the capsule is made from gelatine or not.

Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

Avoid this.

Consume that which is completely pure and halāl, and does not lead to any doubt in its permissibility.

And Allah, the Almighty, knows best.
