QUESTION:
A person was ill in hospital in a lot of pain due to being terminally ill from cancer. They were unable to do their salahs as a result. They have now passed away.
Is there anything that the family should do to make up for these missed salahs.
The family have kept a note of how many salah has been missed.

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
If the person in question was still conscious during this time, then the answer is as follows:
If the deceased made a bequest before passing away for his/her missed ṣalāh to be fulfilled, then fidyah should be given on behalf of the deceased for each missed ṣalāh including witr. This will be deducted from a third of his/her estate.
If the deceased did not make a bequest, then anyone can voluntarily pay fidyah on his/her behalf.
