Allah says in the Qur’an:
“So whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him do righteous deeds and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord.” (Surah Al-Kahf, 18:110)
This verse reminds us that the meeting is not merely a future event but a spiritual reality accessible through righteous action and pure intention. Every prayer, every act of charity, every heartfelt duʿāʾ is a moment of nearness — a private audience with the Divine.
Each form of worship is a doorway to that meeting:
- Prayer — a direct conversation with Allah, where the believer stands in humility before his Creator.
- Supplication — an intimate whisper of the heart, echoing the Prophet ﷺ’s words: “Duʿāʾ is worship.” (Tirmidhi)
- Charity — a meeting through compassion, as the Prophet ﷺ said: “Charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” (Ibn Majah)
- Reciting the Qur’an — a meeting through divine speech, where the believer listens to the words of his Lord.
- Standing in the night — a meeting in solitude, when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and calls: “Is there anyone asking, so I may give?” (Bukhari, Muslim)
- Honouring one’s parents — a meeting through gratitude and service, for Allah’s pleasure lies in their contentment.
Imam al-Hasan al-Basri once saw a man praying with deep concentration. When asked what made his prayer so tranquil, the man replied, “I stand before Allah as if I already see Him — for if I do not see Him, He surely sees me.” This echoes the hadith of Ihsan: “To worship Allah as though you see Him; and if you do not see Him, know that He sees you.” (Muslim)
Such awareness transforms every act into a meeting — not of form, but of presence.
The believer’s rest is not in worldly ease but in the serenity of divine connection. Every moment of sincerity is a meeting with the One who created time itself. So, as Friday arrives — a day of mercy and remembrance — let us renew our intention to seek these meetings with Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, in every breath and deed.
