Question: Is Bismillah part of each Surah?

Answer:

There are two types of Bismillah in the Qur’an: 

• The Bismillah which is part of Surah al-Naml [Qur’an, 27:30]
• The Bismillah which is found at the beginning of each Surah.

 
The Bismillah that is in Surah al Naml is agreed to be part of the Quran and there is no disagreement regarding this at all.
 
The scholars have a difference of opinion regarding the Bismillah that is found at the beginning of each Surah. Some scholars like Imam Shafi’ee (Allah have mercy on him) are of the opinion that the Bismillah is a part of the Quran and is a part of every Surah. Imam Abu Hanifa (Allah have mercy on him) and many other scholars are of the opinion that the Bismillah is a part of the Quran but not part of each Surah, it only comes as a separation between the Surats.
