Q: What is the wording of Takbīr al-Tashrīq?
A: The wording of Takbīr al-Tashrīq is:
اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إِلٰهَ إلَّا اللّٰهُ وَاللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلّٰهِ الْحَمْد
Transliteration: Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar. Lā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu akbar. Allāhu Akbar walillāhil ḥamd.
Translation: “Allāh is the Greatest, Allāh is the Greatest. There is no deity besides Allāh and Allāh is the Greatest. Allāh is the Greatest and all praises belong to Him Alone.”
Q: What are the days of Takbīr al-Tashrīq?
A: There is a total of five days for Takbīr al-Tashrīq; from the 9th of Ḍhūl Ḥijjah till the 13th of Ḍhūl Ḥijjah.
Q: What is the start and end time of Takbīr al-Tashrīq?
A: The time of Takbīr al-Tashrīq begins from Fajr Ṣalāh of the 9th of Ḍhūl Ḥijjah i.e. the Day of ‘Arafah and ends after ‘Aṣr Ṣalāh on the 13th of Ḍhūl Ḥijjah.
Q: Upon whom is Takbīr al-Tashrīq Wājib (compulsory)?
A: Takbīr al-Tashrīq is Wājib (compulsory) upon every Muslim male and female who have reached the age of puberty, whether they reside in a city or town, or whether they are in a state of travelling or not.
Q: Does a female in a state of menstruation have to recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq?
A: Ṣalāh is not compulsory on a female who is in a state of menstruation. Hence, she will not have to recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq.
Q: After which Salah is Takbīr al-Tashrīq Wājib (compulsory)?
A: It is Wājib (compulsory) to recite Takbīr al-Tashrīq only after Farḍ Ṣalāh, whether the Farḍ Ṣalāh is performed in Jamā’ah (congregation) or individually. There is no command to recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq after Witr Ṣalāh, Sunnah Ṣalāh and Nafl Ṣalāh. If Jumu’ah Ṣalāh happens to be in the days of Takbīr al-Tashrīq, then it is compulsory to recite Takbīr al-Tashrīq after the two Farḍ Rak’āts of Jumu’ah Ṣalāh too. Likewise, the Takbīr al-Tashrīq should be recited after the Eid Ṣalāh.
Q: When exactly should the Takbīr al-Tashrīq be recited?
A: It is compulsory to recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq straight after Farḍ Ṣalāh. If one did not recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq after Farḍ Ṣalāh, then whenever one remembers in his place of Ṣalāh, he should recite it as long as he has not committed such an act which invalidates Ṣalāh. However, if he commits such an act that invalidates Ṣalāh, like talking or breaking Wuḍūʾ, then the time for reciting Takbīr al-Tashrīq will be gone. There is no Qaḍāʾ (making up) for the Takbīr al-Tashrīq. Rather, in such a scenario, one should seek forgiveness for his negligence.
If one’s Wuḍūʾ breaks itself straight after Ṣalāh, then in such a scenario, one should recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq in that state. And if one goes to do Wuḍūʾ, and then says the Takbīr al-Tashrīq, that it also fine.

A: In total, one will be reciting Takbīr al-Tashrīq for 23 Ṣalāhs.

A: Males should recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq audibly and females should recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq quietly.
Q: How many times should the Takbīr al-Tashrīq be recited?
A: It is only compulsory to recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq once, and not three times. Hence, the Takbīr al-Tashrīq should not be recited more than once.
Q: When will a person who prays Ṣalāh in Jamā’ah (congregation) and misses any Rak’at (unit of prayer) behind an Imam recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq?
A: Whoever misses any Rak’at (unit of prayer) whilst praying in Jamā’ah (congregation) behind an Imām, he will recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq straight after he completes his remaining Ṣalāh after the Imām has done the (closing) Salām.
Q: Will Takbīr al-Tashrīq be recited after Qaḍāʾ Ṣalāh?
A: If any Fard Ṣalāh is missed in its time during the abovementioned five days of Takbīr al-Tashrīq, and Qaḍāʾ is done in these five days, then the Takbīr al-Tashrīq will be recited after performing Qadāʾ Ṣalāh too. However, if Qaḍāʾ is done after these five days or one is doing Qaḍāʾ in these five days of Ṣalāh that was due before these five days, then in both these scenarios the Takbīr al-Tashrīq will not be recited after that Qaḍāʾ Ṣalāh.
Q: If the Imām forgets to recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq, should the followers in his congregation wait for him?
A: If the Imām forgets to recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq, then the followers in his congregation should not wait for the Imām. Rather, they should recite the Takbīr al-Tashrīq straight away.
