1. Ghalitha
The amount equivalent to 1 *Dirham may be overlooked. Prayer is permitted with this amount of impurity.
Examples:
- Wine
- Flowing blood
- The flesh and skin of a dead animal
- The urine of those animals which are not lawful to consume
- The excrement of dogs and animals of prey and their saliva
- The droppings of chickens, ducks, and geese
- That which breaks the Wudhu by leaving the body
2. khafifah
Up to a quarter of the body or cloths may be overlooked. Prayer is permitted with this amount of impurity.
Examples:
- The urine of horses
- The urine of those animals which are lawful to consume
- The droppings of those birds which are not lawful to consume
Impurity Spreading
If an impurity spreads or piece of land becomes wet from the sweat of a sleeping person or the wetness of a foot, and traces of impurity become apparent on the body or foot, then they too become impure.
Impurity will not spread in the following:
- By the wrapping of dry pure cloth in such a wet impure cloth that if it were to be squeezed it would not drip.
- By the spreading of a wet cloth over dry impure land which consequently becomes damp.
- By the blowing of the wind over some impurity and then blowing over a cloth.
*One dirham is equivalent to 40 grams, or the amount of water that can be held in the open outstretched palm of the hand.
