A prayer to recite for those that have passed away in the current COVID-19 virus pandemic. Taken from the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

 

Awf bin Malik mentions a hadith recorded in Sahih Muslim, and Jami’ at-Tirmidhi.

 

According to the nearest meaning:

There was a funeral in Madinah, and the messenger of Allah ﷺ read the funeral prayer, and I memorised the supplication of the messenger of Allah ﷺ during the salah janazah for that particular deceased. Upon hearing the dua, I wished that I was the deceased, so that I would have received this beautiful dua.

 

اللَّهمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُمْ

Oh Allah forgive them.

 

وَارْحَمْهُمْ

Have mercy on them.

وَعَافِهِمْ

Grant them safety.

 

وَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ

Pardon them.

 

وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُمْ

Welcome them.

 

وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُمْ

Expand their graves.

 

وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالبَرَدِ

Wash them with water, with ice, with snow.

 

وَنَقِّه ِ مِنَ الخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ

Wash them from their sins, the way a dirt is removed from a white cloth.

 

وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَاراً خَيْرا ً مِنْ دَارِهِ

Grant them a better abode (in the hereafter) than their abode in the world.

 

وَأَهْلاً خَيْرا ً مِنْ أَهْلِهِ

Grant them a better family (in the hereafter) than their family in the world.

 

وَزَوْجَاً خَيْرا ً مِنْ زَوْجِهِ

Grant them a better spouse (in the hereafter) than their spouse in the world.

 

وَأَدْخِلْهُمْ الجَنَّةَ

And enter them in paradise.

 

وَأَعِذْهُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ النَّار

And protect them from the tails of the grave, and from the punishment of the fire.

 

This is the recommended prayer (Dua) for deceased. We ask Allah to forgive and protect all those that have passed away.
