Dua when waking up

Dua when waking up

Abu Hurairah, Allah be pleased with him narrates that messenger of Allah, Allah send peace and blessings upon him said, ‘When one of you leaves his bed and then returns to it, then he should dust it with one end of his lower garment as one does not know what came to his bed after him, and when he lays down (to sleep) he should say, With your name O my lord, I place my side (upon the bed) and with Your Grace I will raise it up. If You withhold my soul (cause me to die), have mercy on it but if You let it go (let me live), guard it against which You guarded Your pious slaves, and when he wakes up he should say

All praise is due to Allah who kept my body healthy and returned my soul to me and granted me permission to remember him

Aban (the narrator who narrates from Uthman) later on in life was afflicted with a type of paralysis, so his student began to look at him (with amaze). Aban said to him ‘What are you looking at? Listen up! The narration is as I narrated to you, however I forgot to say the Dua on the day I was afflicted and so Allah carried out his pre destiny on me.
