Asking Allah for the ability to do good

Asking Allah for the ability to do good

Muadh Ibn Jabal, Allah be pleased with him narrates that one morning the Messenger of Allah, Allah send peace and blessings upon him was prevented from coming out to us for the Morning prayer (Fajr) until we almost saw the sun. He then came out quickly and the Iqamah was given. The Messenger of Allah, Allah send peace and blessings upon him then lead the prayer and relatively quickly and after the Salam he called out to us and said ”Stay in your rows as you are”. He then turned to us and said ” Listen well! I will inform you about what kept me from you this morning. I stood at night, made Wudhu and prayed what had been destined for me to read and then fell into a deep sleep during my prayer. I was then in front of my Lord, blessed and exalted is He in the best of appearances and He said, ”O Muhammad!”, I replied ”I am here My lord”, He said ”What are the high Angels discussing?”, I replied ”I do not know my Lord”, this was repeated three times. The Messenger of Allah said ”I then saw Allah place his palm ( as is befitting for his majesty) between my shoulders until I felt the coolness of his fingertips on my chest. Everything then became clear to me and I became aware, He then said to me ”O Muhammad!”, I replied ”I am here my Lord”, He again asked me ”What are the high angels discussing?”, I replied ”They are discussing those acts which wipe away sin”. Allah said ”What are they?”. I replied ”Walking towards the congregational prayer, staying seated in the Masjid after the prayer and making wudhu properly despite difficulties”. Allah said ‘‘then what else?’’ I replied ‘‘feeding others, talking politely and praying Salah at night when people are asleep”. Allah then said ”Ask!” and so I supplicated:

O Allah! I ask You to give me the ability to do good deeds and to leave bad deeds, love for the poor and that You forgive me and have mercy on me, and when you are to afflict a nation with a trial (Fitnah), then take me back (to You) without being afflicted with this trial. I ask You for Your love, the love of those who love You and love for actions which will draw me closer to Your love
